For my essay, I read an article in The Telegraph entitled “What is beauty - the 10 qualities that make art beautiful”. This article presents ten criteria with visual illustration that are used to judge the beauty of an artwork. I also read a good part of “Venus in Exile” and part 4 of our art book, which reflects what was valued in art throughout history and the changes that occurred. In understanding my essay, definition some key terms might be necessary

Nature is the phenomena of the physical world collectively, including plants, animals, the landscape, and other features and products of the earth, as opposed to humans or human creations.Nature is everything that was not made by man.

Pattern is the repetition of an element such as design in a work.

Renaissance is a cultural movement that spanned roughly the 14th to the 17th century, beginning in Florence and later spreading to the rest of Europe.

There are a lot of definitions and understanding about beauty but for our essay, we will just stick to the one that beauty is a characteristic of a person, animal, place, object, or idea that provides a perceptual experience of pleasure, meaning, or satisfaction.

I will be going through those artworks to explain the implication of different criteria of beauty for they each contain a quality of beauty.
