Sculpture

My work of art attempts to redefine the conception of sculpture. In other words, it is trying to approach sculpture differently. If it had desires; it would like to be a major source of imformation like ancient times.Eventually, it would like to be also main tool of portraying and magnifying the environment.

Conclusion

In the value of art, I have learned how the value of art is valuable to anyone or how art is being made in this world. This subject has made me realize how art should be made. Art is not something you draw or made only, you can paint and blend in the image to make it a better image. I have learned the value of art in this world was my point of concern.

Conclusion

My topic was about beauty in art, and for this purpose I decided to draw a landscape at first. In doing so, I used water soluble crayons, water, hard sheet of paper and a little bit of imagination. I had previously watch videos about drawing and the use of water color. I started by drawing with a sharp pencil. Then, added the colors and with a bit of water, expended the color to create shape, and motion. The choice of a landscape was in correlation with nature which is relevant to my essay. I got inspired by African painting that I have in my room and the project took a whole new direction. It turned out to be a story that shows the beautiful and colorful country side world (Africa) compared to the modern and developed city, without nature (USA). My response to that change was passive for I just follow my impulse. At the end I realized that nature does present beauty especially combined with color. I planned on adding more animation to the second drawing but that emptiness also represented lack of wild life, in USA, and lack of technology in Africa. Apart from letting my imagination roll, everything went as planned and I hope it produced the same effect on you as well.

Conclusion

I have been working on Art and Its Perception, and i have learned more than i ever expected because this work took me deep to learn about the topic. In world of art, arts are apreciated only when it is detailed for the world to understand the artist's point of concern in the particular artwork. I have learned the basics and the aspect and the purpose of this subject which was my point of concern.

Conclusion

My topic being about design, it is then normal that I create an artwork related to design. My art work is a montage and it is called digital art. A montage can be made by using software called Photoshop. In response to my question in my introduction, I would say that yes, design is very important in art work. It allows anybody to change one thing to another and that is how a montage permitted me to go from a simple garden to a stamp.
The process begins with a computer and it was realizable thanks to technology. Imagination is needed to make the right combinations and you may not know exactly where you are going during the process but the result will always be interesting and often amazing.
The surprise in this project was that my original intent was not a stamp but a landscape. My plan changed completely after printing the image on the paper. The colors changed partially and went from all green to ¾ yellow and ¼ green. The design is what transformed this simple image to an art work in my opinion.
Definitely, design is indispensable in art work.

I took this picture when I visited in Russia last year. The name of statue is The Motherland calls in Volgogard city. Individually I call this statue Venus because that woman has perfect beauty and she looks like a soldier with the sword in hand. It shows the beauty of power in the woman.

Conclusion and Artwork

Both references express the value in art, but they use different ways. The first example uses an item to show the value in art. The toilet is not toilet if it is the museum, but when it in the restroom that would not an artwork. The second example is an experiment. A famous violinist plays the violin in Washington DC during rush hour. Only one person stopped and listens to his performers. These are representation of the art. However, the value changes with different environment and the attitude of audiences. Most important factor influencing the value in art is the attitude of audiences. I would not change or add anything to the “fountain” because it already answered my question. I will write Chinese calligraphy.

Here is my artwork, it is Chinese word is “春” [chun], it means "spring". That would be a very simple artwork, but not everyone can understand. Chinese may know what it is, but people with Chinese culture background may not make sense of it. Everything went according to plan.

So, the value in art is being determined by you. If you understand or appreciate something you like, and it would be a wonderful artwork in your mind.

Wake Up, America is the artwork I have chosen to analyze and help me answer my question of how can a political art piece influence our opinions politically. I think this picture does a great job illustrating what is wrong with America in the most strongest issues. It shows a life-like Statue of Liberty sleeping with pills spilling (a hit on our medical care and pills for everything), the burning oil derricks in the background , and the graves in the front yard of Capitol Hill. To me this is a strong statement in itself and does not even need the text at the top of the painting. I believe that if someone were to look at this painting and asked what it would say if had text at the top they might answer wake up. With regards to my question I think that this painting can impact an American that may not realize the short-comings of our country and that's what I think the biggest impact political art has. It has the ability to make people thing about things they otherwise may not have and even form opinions based on what they see. When I look at this painting I feel like it speaks the truth and shines light on the dark areas of our countries problems. I do not agree with everything the painting is trying to get across, like the war is strictly over oil and the deaths of military members are on the hands of the suits in the government, even though it is to an extent. The one thing this painting does make me do is to really think about what we are going through as a country and the path we are going down, which is a very powerful tool that political art has. I believe if this painting could speak it would say to us as individual Americans to realize what we are doing as a country and figure out the truth behind it all. Also directed at the government and to be honest with itself its country members, not politically correct. When talking about the visual effects this painting uses to create the feeling sit does I believe is the emphasis with use of colors and placement of the images it chooses. I hope my picture has a lot of the same principles and effects that the painting I choose but in hopes of helping answer my original question I want it bring a matter into light that otherwise may have gone as just a blip on the screen. What I mean is that the government was hours away from not paying is service members for their duties. Can you imagine being in a war zone and your family back home not receiving that income which is probably the main source?

Sculpture

Usually, different sources can be either convergent or divergent. All the texts that I use are unaminous on the fact that, sculpture has a form of art based on a tree-dimensional representation of an object. But, the main difference is media or materials is that people should use in order to construct a good sculpture. By reading my texts, i barely found sculpure of landescape or scuplture or animals. The majority of scultures are reprensetation of men. In some cases, they sculpt icons and idols. This is should not the case because sculpure is powerful tool. It has been a means of human expression since prehistoric times. Therefore, it should not be used as medium merely to adulate men, but to portray mother nature in tree-dimension. The good thing about art people are free to express what they think about the work of art. This is a require ingeniosity. The magic of scultures gives an illusion of movement . Art is all about creatitivity and ins piration. Landscape is going to be a pivotal component for my work of art.

After doing my research in trying to answer the question I presented I came up with pretty clear answers to very broad question. My question what how can the creation of politcial art impact (influence) our political opinions. Some say that we can form a position politically solely based on images. A great example of this is the planes hitting the twin towers, now Bin Laden's dead photo, or historically something like a slave being whipped or during the Holocaust. These images that are so strong have the greatest impact on us being human beings and we can immediatly have a stand on certain issues brought to our attention by these images. To answer my own question in its fullest would take a tremendous amount of time and debate; so my sole simple answer is that it can bring feelings we may have otherwise never had without seeing the certain work (image, documentary, sculpture, etc.). This is pretty evident when talking about the artwork I analyzed, a piece called Wake Up America! This image shows burning oil derricks, a statue of liberty sleeping with pills spilling out of her hand, and graves in the front yard of Capitol Hill. Now this is something most Americans are aware of, all of these problems we have, but there are penty of Americans that do not have a real opinion on these matters. I believe that images like these can make people start to think about some of the issues we have and maybe influence them to do something about it. To me this is a classic example of how political art can impact or influence one's political opinions or stances.
When thinking about what I wanted to do as an artwork I thought immediatley of the military. Being a military member myself my income was almost wiped out by the government's short-comings. Recently there was dispute with labor within the government and military memebrs and government employees were hours away from not being paid for work. There was an extension put on governements discussion and things got resolved. So I wanted to make a piece that brought light to this situation and what could have been. I wanted to create the feeling of the modern military member recently homeless and lost of purpose in life. Now obviously I am only one person so I could not create a mass group like I would like to, nor was I about to disrepect the uniform and go stand on the corner of a real street looking like that. So I simply stood on my balcony with the brick wall behind me in hopes to create a feeling that it could be on the corner of some street with a brick bulding behind me.

Many artists in Venus in Exile, felt that the only way to describe BEAUTY, is through the form of a woman's body. Very few feel that BEAUTY is in the eye of the beholder. Some of the artist believed that abstract art can not be considered as Beauty, while others felt it was not.
You have some artist that have stated that " The idea of BEAUTY can be offensive..... It doesn't deal with issues, political issues or social issues, but an issue that it does deal with is harmony." This statement is by Brice Marden, a painter.
I agree with his statement. Beauty can be issues that come from in life or even just pictures or even shapes, scenery's, or even just spots on a canvas. I disagree with the idea that only the female form is BEAUTY. Even though, the may not be referring to just the female form as BEAUTY. The male form can also be BEAUTY. I believed this is a form of oppression of the female or the woman's place in society. There are many other forms in that can be considered BEAUTY other than the human form. The trees you walk by on a day to day basis. the flowers in a flower garden or even a scenery over looking a mountain top. All these things can be BEAUTY.
To answer the question that I have posed, BEAUTY is no longer in form of only the human form. It is in the form of whatever the individual sees or how they may see a picture, painting or even a sculpture.
The art work I have chosen is one from Charles Basquiat. I find a lot of his work is beautiful and that the statements that he makes are beautiful ones. The way he arranges his ideas and places them on the canvas, the colors are all flowing with the concept that he is presenting. The figures that he has placed as a form of representation of the ideas that he has. They bring hyou to understand where he is, where he has been , and where he is going. These statements I understand. He paints the statements in the most beautiful way. His BEAUTY, is controversy in his art.
I looked at many pieces of his, but i kept coming back to Charles Basquiat paintings. His work just speaks to me. His works talk about the struggles that he endured over the years and as he was growing up. Ideas of how he sees the world in which we live or even the world he lived in. The paintings tells his life stories. He is well known for his graffiti art in New York back in the days. His art work still looks like the graffiti he did back then. The paintings are full of his idea of BEAUTY from a social stand point, of the struggles of his culture and surroundings. A stand point that many would not see or even understand.
This painting answers my question, because it has the BEAUTY. The history and struggle the had endured on a personal level, and the struggle and the accomplishments that as a black race they have conquered.
If the painting could speak this is what it would say," LOOK AT ME I AM HERE TO STAY , YOU CAN'T MESS WITH ME ANY LONGER." With the words that are painted on there. The symbols that he has incorporated in the painting. They said a lot about him and who he is and was. The words of THOR, meaning a hero, he is a hero to so many people. The symbol of a crown, meaning he is king of the graffiti world.
In reading that one book it had many different opinions about what BEAUTY was. Each artist and each critic all have a different idea of what is. The reference really still did not give me a clear answer to my question, but it did give me a lot of insight on the way BEAUTY use to be thought about. It also gives you an idea of how it is thought about in this day and time. My answer to the question is it has changed over time. Individual artist all have their own idea of it and own concept of it also. Some critics agree with the artist about the ideas and concepts of what is BEAUTY.
It showed me that words and pictures or even stretches can turnout to be beautiful. When arranged in the right way. The message that was sent out by the painting said a lot.

When Marcel Duchamp had exhibited the "Nude Descending a Staircase" at the Armory Show in New York City in 1913, it was a scandalous success, parodied and ridiculed in the newspapers. Former President Teddy Roosevelt told the papers, to their delight, that the painting reminded him of a Navajo blanket. Others called it "an explosion in a shingle factory," or "a staircase descending a nude." The American Art News held a contest to find the "nude" in the painting. The winning entry declared, "It isn't a lady but only a man." The Armory Show was most Americans' first exposure to modern art, and more than 70,000 people saw it during its New York run. By the times it closed after traveling to boston and chicago, 300,000 people already seen it.

Installation art uses the architectural repetitive space that the viewer is in, bringing the viewers into the art, pulling them inside. Often, the installation piece considers and includes the environment: architecture, natural outdoor surroundings, video, music, sound, light, and texture. The question that I want to ask is “How installations pieces are help us experience art differently than other kinds of art? Do they provide a more complete “experience” for the audience?" Answering these question will help us understand how and why installations are chosen as a medium and it will help determine their validity. To answer this question I will look at images from Saint-Chapelle; which was built in France in the 13th century, Marcel decamp, “Mile of String, 1942, Marcel decamp and Ilya Kabokov, 10 characters: The man who flew into Space from his Apartment,1988, and Test Site by Carsten Höller, 2006. I will construct my own installation piece and that I hope will achieve certain effects with it.

Installation art -describes an artistic genre of site-specific, three-dimensional works designed to transform a viewer's perception of a space. Generally, the term is applied to interior spaces, whereas exterior interventions are often called Land art; however the boundaries between these terms overlap.

Gesamtkunstwerk- This is a German word used to describe art that uses many forms of art to do so. The idea is that using this method the art is more complete.

Sense- The meaning of things as present in the immediate experience usually invoking the use of the faculties: sight, hearing smell, taste, or touch. “by which humans and animals perceive stimuli originating from outside or inside the body.”-dictionary.com important to the definition of sense is that it is information or experience that comes from outside of the body. In Art of Experience, the interaction with the organism with its environment leads to experience which is the reward of the interaction.” Over and over again, John Dwey talks about the specific way of understanding that comes from interaction, not separation from, with the stimulus of the environment.

Fine art-removed from common life. expensive materials developed for pleasing aesthetics of the senses. Art that has reached a level in skill execution of rendering. Uncommon, special, not made out of everyday materials.

Flow-According to Csíkszentmihályi, flow is completely focused motivation. It is a single-minded immersion and represents perhaps the ultimate in harnessing the emotions in the service of performing and learning. In flow, the emotions are not just contained and channeled, but positive, energized, and aligned with the task at hand. To be caught in the ennui of depression or the agitation of anxiety is to be barred from flow. The hallmark of flow is a feeling of spontaneous joy, even rapture, while performing a task[2] although flow is also described (below) as a deep focus on nothing but the activity - not even oneself or one's emotions. Creative flow- Flow is the mental state of operation in which a person in an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and success in the process of the activity. Proposed by Mihály Csíkszentmihályi, the positive psychology concept has been widely referenced across a variety of fields.[1]

I want to compare two images between Venus of Willendof and Venus de Milo. The similarities of them are symbol s of beauty in the woman. Although these beauties were showed up differently by appearance, however they are desirability about a perfect beauty. The beauty is associated with mystery when Venus of Willendof is faceless, obese. This statue is an important icon of prehistory about symbol of fertility, lucky charm to bring success in ancestors’ hunting. The imagine of Venus de Milo is the harmony of the lines of the figure, the noble pose, the poise of the small head upon the curved neck, the beauty of face, the soft color of stone . All unite in creating an impression of sensuous joy. The Venus de Milo is what all Greek women aspired to be: balanced and harmonious. The importance of creating Venus in sculpture is the social, political, and religious belief. The women might have had an esteem role in the society. The female figures denote the existence during the period of a prominent female deity identified usually as The Mother Goddess. On the basic of this assumption, it has been suggested that, women played a considerably more important, that possibly a matriarchy existed and women ruled.

Design is what makes the art work different. As it is said “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” and this statement indicates how different we perceive things. Design allows the artist to put this personal touch that differ his work from others. The focal point on an art work is made obvious to the viewer because the artist uses a particular design on this area of his work.

You need to make an art piece by Friday and present it in class. 
If your project is an object that you can bring to class please do that and prepare a presentation that will describe your process of thought and making. If it is something you can't bring to class (ex: site specific, performance or other event), use documentations such as photos or videos of the event.

Wendy Steiner, in her book “Venus in Exile” portrays how beauty has changed over time. From being related to the female body to being an object of disgust, she is persuaded that the change is leading towards the destruction of beauty. In the text she presents a beautiful art as “flesh-and-blood existence, freed of individual interest, become ideal, pure, almost godlike in our consciousness.” An article appeared in The Telegraph from Broadcaster Matthew Collings defines the 10 qualities that make art beautiful as nature, simplicity, surprise, surrounding, unity, spontaneity, transformation, animation, pattern, and selection.
